Amanda Konkin

Amanda Konkin is a BC‑based producer whose work centres women‑led genre storytelling and socially relevant, light‑hearted drama. With a background in theatre, education, and community arts, she brings a collaborative, people‑first ethos to every project, championing character‑driven narratives and emerging creators across Canada’s independent film and television landscape.

Her debut feature One Must Wash Eyes (2024), directed by Sepideh Yadegar, premiered at the Oakville Festivals of Film & Art and won Best Canadian Feature at the Regina International Film Festival. The film opened GEMS Fest 2025 and is slated for North American distribution, marking Amanda’s arrival as a producer with a distinct voice in contemporary Canadian cinema. Her short‑form work includes multiple acclaimed projects: the Crazy8s films iDorothy (2021) and Ada (2019), and the Harold Greenberg‑supported H.appiness, which is streaming on Crave and Dust. These projects reflect her ongoing commitment to women‑centred narratives, often infused with speculative or science‑fiction elements.

Amanda was the co‑founder of Download Joy Productions, through which she developed several projects via Canadian talent incubators. She pitched the feature Human Nature at Frontières Market with support from the GEMS Genre Lab, further establishing her interest in international co‑production and genre‑driven storytelling. She also co‑produced the groundbreaking television series The Switch, one of the first trans‑led scripted comedies in North America, demonstrating her long‑standing dedication to inclusive, community‑rooted production.

Alongside her live‑action work, Amanda has spent a decade as a line producer in animation, contributing to series such as It’s Andrew (CBC Gem) and Superkitties (Disney Jr). She was selected for the inaugural cohort of Women in Animation’s ACE program, producing the 2D animated short The Butterfly Affect with her single purpose company Spectacle 5 Films. Her dual experience in animation and live action gives her a rare versatility across formats, pipelines, and production cultures.
